Title: Low PUFA poultry feed...
Post by: spud on April 28, 2024, 08:24
Ive been working on finding low PUFA feed for my hens and its very difficult, i discovered in my research that feeding soya, maize based feeds raises the Linoleic acid content of the eggs and also the meat, should you be eating any birds.

Linoleic acid is a polyunsaturated, omega-6 fatty acid, consuming it has raised concerns on peoples health issues.  Im finding that it has become a very popular food ingredient in all animal feeds and also directly fed to ourselves in most processed foods.

As i have been unable to buy a manufactured poultry feed, Ive been mixing up my own ration, not perfect and it will certainly be altered some more, but for now at least I've been able to lower the PUFA being fed to my hens.

I Will try and upload a pic of the feed later this morning for those interested.

It looks like wheat, soaked split peas and some cooked rice.  What else have you got in there spud?

Mine love cooked rice, but they only get it occasionally as a treat when I have leftovers.
