Title: Seed watching
Post by: New shoot on March 03, 2022, 20:20
Know this game?  It is like watching paint dry but with more angst.

You sow your seeds, tuck them up and then prowl about waiting for them to grow.  You find yourself gravitating towards the propagator, or checking the greenhouse every time you pass.  Really!  Is it likely they would have germinated in the time it took you to walk to the shop and back  ::)

I’ve got it bad this year but I am blaming the weather  ;)

Yes, I've been playing the game for a few weeks now, some seeds are playing ball and some are refusing to play at all...Very frustrating
I mean, on a level playing field (same propagator  ;)) why should 2 varieties of pepper want to play, and 2 others decide not to

Sigh...

I'm being very good this year and all of mine are still tucked up in their jiffy bag from premier seeds, although I could be tempted into sowing a few peppers.  ::)

With peppers at least, I find that seeds inside the container I use for chitting can, and do, sprout rapidly, once you start seeing the first one sprout. Sometimes I'll see only one sprouted at the start of a day, by late in the day it's a half dozen.

Last year I waited for a fortnight for some tomato seeds to emerge - nothing.  I sowed more, and as you'd expect they all germinated and I ended up giving plants away

The thing about gardening is you can't win!

Hello if you can ever get into a wholesale plant producers ask if you can see their propagation units, its amazing the wholesaler I visit has  small shipping containers set up ad propagates with shelves in ,each holds 1.4 million seed modules ,last time I was there they were opening them  the modules were green over apart from one seed with germinated seedlings ,seed was put in at 4pm at 65 degrees and seedlings taken out at 9am the following morning    a trick of the trade put your seed in a fridge over night some might need stratification others scarifiing     jezza
