Title: Favourite foods
Post by: Springlands on January 19, 2014, 15:53
I have just been doing my on-line shopping order and started to think about my favourite foods. Two came to mind. Home grown cucumber straight off the vine and still slightly warm - yuuuuuum. Fudge made with my mums recipe - I can smell that warm fudge-y loveliness now.

Any other favourites.

Home made cherry and almond cake with whole cherries which sort of pop in your mouth. For savoury....home made potted shrimps or regular Greenland prawns, at room temperature, with fresh. hot crusty bread. :tongue2: No prawns here though. :(

Jersey royals dripping with butter, homemade wholemeal bread, with thick salty butter, and fresh Devon crab.

My Devon scones, with raspberry jam and double cream. Clotted is too rich.

Proper raspberry trifle with no jelly in it.

Why is it that all the things that we really like are the fattening ones.  One of mine is sausage rolls straight from the oven.  They don't taste the same reheated.

A piece of really good dark chocolate melting on your tongue; a steaming glass of Glühwein in the frost; a spit roast chicken from the market in france with a crisp green salad and fresh pain de campagne; fish and chips on the seafront when really hungry.......

So much of this is about when and where ....  ???

Grilled/barbecued squid with an amazing salad.
Smoked fish (mackerel,  trout,  salmon).
Greek meze (dolmades, pseftokeftedes, soutzoukakia, etc)
A good quality medium pink sirloin or rump steak.
Roast lamb.
Creme brulee or pannacotta.

These are a few of my favourite things :D

I have had both. Often holidayed in Cromer but Devon crab wins hands down. Don't know if it is warmer waters or that the dressed Devon crab has the brown and white meat mixed but it is a last meal requirement.

And actually DBG I am totally with you on your list too, apart from the risotto.
Oh let's face it we all just like good food.
How can we really make a list of favourites, most things are my favourites. ::)

My friends produce Devon crab.  They run the Blue House Crab Company in south Devon.
If I actually ate crab I'd get freebies - I don't eat it though ::)

Just had a look at their site DBG. I do love crab. I also see they do John Dory. Amazing fish. Will look them up when I'm down that way in the spring again.

It is a horrible wet and windy day here and it has reminded me of my favourite comfort foods - leek and potato soup (probably having that tonight) and cottage pie. Yummy in my tummy.  :)

Turkish lamb kebap with fresh green salad (the real stuff not that greasy late night meal). Imam bayildi with roast lamb, Mussels cooked any way, Garlic prawns, Escargots in garlic sauce.  But nothing can beat a really crisp fresh mixed lettuce and herb salad with freshly picked tomatoes of your choice all grown by yourself with a jucy blue steak.
