Seriously grovelling admission...
« on: September 27, 2011, 20:56 »
Mrs Growster makes a real Shepherds Pie.

I mean, she builds this edifice at a rate of knots, and from items she's coddled away for some considerable time - like several weeks, since the last lamb joint or even beyond that...

And the first - and the second and third question from yours truly, is "So what vegetable delicacies do you want to go with this concoction Mrs Growster...I'm just off down to the patch, and you can have anything unless it's asparagus or scorzonera?

(We have a lovely relationship which sometimes demands - yeah - humbles - such niceties...)

(Don't believe that last line - it's tosh...)

"Oh, S** it, I've had enough of kale, brussels, carrots, salsify, parsnips and the green stuff from down there; I want a tin of baked beans...".

And it is ever thus, as I'm still addicted to baked beans, and Mrs G still yearns for the times when we were younger, and had no worries, and life was for kids, and Heinz were the only name to hear, and.. and...and...

Baked beans did once grow, y'know, even if not on your own plot  :nowink: :nowink: :tongue2:

KC, somehow, I knew you'd be here, listening carefully like the great person you are...

I could eat baked beans anywhere...

So why don't you grow your own beans for baking? They'd be cheap and plentiful, if dry. Mrs G could test a lot of recipes to find one you both love best  ;) See, method to my madness  :D

Actually, I'm with Growster.

I love an occasional tin of baked beans of said brand. (and easier when you're 100's of miles away from your plot in the antique motorhome).
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Now Trills, you've just responded at the same time as DD, and that leaves me in a quandary...

Beans from the patch - lovely, but never enough.

Beans from a tin (Heinz), plenty, but not from the patch...

Go to one's roots, what were so special when we were young - runner beans, or baked beans...

As I get younger, these statements become more/less ponderable...

And baked beans are great straight from the fridge, when all else fails...

Runners just don't do that...

Baked beans of a certain brand were always eaten cold straight from the tin, on those long ago trips in the Hilman Imp estate with the matress slung in the back for a fortnights holiday driving down to Newquay ;) Happy days :)

You don't keep a tin in the cupboard at all times?  The Beanz, Meanz variety always used to be my staple, but now i have to admit to preferring the one made by the pickle people....

Contrary to opinion I did not bring up my youngest son, Heinz did.  He lived on Baked Beans from the age of 2 till 18 when he finally discovered veg and still has to have a tin when he comes home on a weekend.

Thank you Heinz.
