anyone cooked achocha?
« on: August 28, 2010, 18:15 »
I was given some seeds of achocha by someone on my lottie who travels to S America. They grew really well (too well- very large plant) and I now have several 8 inch fruit. Apparently you can cook then pretty much any method you use on sweet peppers. Anyone know more?

I thought they were more like cucumbers tbh

The little ones can be eaten raw, but bigger ones need the seeds taken out before you cook them.

I bought seed from 'Realseeds' and the plants grew like triffids with dozens of 3" plum shaped fruit. None of the family liked them no matter how we cooked them so i did not plant them this year.
There were half a dozen self seeded plants this year that had to be weeded out so keep an eye open , they may try to take over. :)

I'll try stuffing them and see if that works, but I may have let them get too big.

I'm growing an achocha plant this year... but that's all I'm growing... i've got lots of plant but no achocha!!!!! Not one!! I'm wondering what went wrong? Haven't seen any flowers either- did yours flower?

I was looking forward to trying it :-(

Apparently you can put them on pizza, sliced... its like a cross between cucumber and pepper from what i've read... or you can saute the
