did anyone watch the roadkill chef last night on bbc3?Although the business of eating roadkill doesnt exite me much, there were some interesting tips on furraging, where to find giant puffballs, uses for nettles and so on.the squirrel what he cooked looked delicious, must have a go at that this summer,mmm........if no-one caught the programme, definately worth a viewing in the future

ive had squirrel roadkill, cant say it was much good, but then i didnt have much in the way of seasoning or side veg either. It had been run over by the 4 ton truck that we had just been turfed off on a survival exercise.

have to admit i do collect it for 2 reasons ,yeh i wait for real gales to scream and then lok for pheasants knocked over in the mornings ,most i got was 11 on the A12 going to a scout camp at hallowtree ipswich, i carry a freezer bag in my boot and a deer sack, i have had 3 deer in my time in suffolk , 2 roa and a muntjac .all killed within hours of me coming apon them, squireels i shoot anyways and they are great barbied, brush with honey dressing and cook for 10 mins iether side , rabbit i colect for the ferrets a supply during the sumer when teh crops are high comes in very handy  .oh not sure if it qualifies but i ate a swan that had been in collision with power lines on beccle marshes . dang that was good , smoked badger hams  from a old chap in louth  called bob tanner in my youth still bring a dribble to my lips ,so folks i say dont knock it till ya try it

muntjac you eat like  a king, how about gudgeon fried in butter like henry the 8th,gotta try a squirrel, the meat looked well tasty, see ray mears with his two fish earlier ,a trout and a chub,i find chub a bit earthy with no lemon prior to cooking, cant beat a bit of fresh river caught fish especially if it has been poached, muntjac do you work on a farm or an estate?

you know removing course fish is a hanging offence  :D
my old fella used to tell me about thredding worms onto a length of wool and leaving that over night and when you pull it out in the morning there would be loads of snigs on it.
feed the soil not the plants

Correct me if I am wrong - but isn't the season closed for a reason?

yes it is the closed season in april i think  for rivers is for breeding but i believe ponds dont count in some places , eels are not in that situation when fyke net caught , they run from august to end october for migration and is when we catch them . as for coarse fish  we do catch them but let them go .in winter we take pike to cull them on our coarse river going through the estate
