Title: Holiday cover for chickens
Post by: ManicMum on July 12, 2013, 10:30
Just to cheer up all those who think you can't go on holiday if you have chickens.....

Not only do our neighbours have to have their fair turns when we go away, one chicken-sitter husband says he loves it when we're away as he sees his wife running round the garden weeding until she has a trug or barrow full & then he realises she's off to visit the chickens!

What better reward for neighbourly service than eggs and a weeded garden!!

Our neighbour also does chicken duty, but not with the same enthusiasm! shes scared to let them out because of putting them away on the lighter/later nights, but in return she doesn't take the eggs! so some win:win

The lad next door has agreed to look after our girls when we go on holiday again, but they're used to coming out and free ranging every afternoon, which they won't be able to do while we're away, and they won't be happy about that. We've added to the flock since he did them last year and now have a couple of real houdinis. I think he's going to have his hands full as they will try to get past him at every opportunity, and they're so fast! I wish I could rig up a camera to watch what happens.
