I used to get annoyed about poor germination, so I planted four seeds to a cell in a forty cell tray - guess what nearly everyone of them germinated! I kept an eye on them and when the first leaves formed and before the tap root got too long I planted each cell in a row on the plot. The plan was to nip the weakest and let the most vigourous grow on, somehow the good intention got forgotten. They just got left and when it came time to pull I had a crop of curlies that would have won prizes on pigs bums.

They were a bit awkward to clean, but tasted just fine, were Avonresitor from T&M and transplanted without any fuss. This year I have Tender and True, singly in a tray of rootainers, should have put them in the plot yesterday. Manyana.

I have had to resow about four rows this year because of por germination.I think I wait to long before I decided to resow.

I told a slight porkie on another thread when I said I had no parsnips come up this year (normally have no difficulties with germination).  This year I have 5.  In 2 rows!!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Finished the Parsnip weeding today, 10 seedlings in 7 (out of 28) stations. Where none germinated, resowed at 5 per station. Also have 6 out of 12 loo rows germinating at home so will hopefully be getting some this (my first) year. Incidentally Yorkie1, I know I deliberately picked seeds this year that say they are resistant and relatively easy to grow and so I'm growing Panache F1 from T&M which say you can sow in June so all may not be lost on the parsnip front.  :)

Hamburg parsley is delicious! I used to get it in a veg box ten years ago and loved it now we have an allotment I can grow it. The tops are just like parsley and the roots have a fresher sort of taste than parsnips. I bought some seeds on ebay and lost them so had to order some from Seeds of Italy and there were loads in the packet so I have been merrily sharing them out! Nic.
