Flower or weed ?
« on: May 05, 2007, 16:41 »
Anybody tell me what this is please ? can't make my mind up whether it's a flower that I've sown last year or a weed    looking nice in my front garden tho'

Don't know if you can see, but there's some very small barb's on the stems.

Looks heckuva like a sowthistle to me.  If so, the stem will be hollow.

A weed is a plant growing in the wrong place!
There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature? the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter. -   Rachel Carson

Is there a version of comfrey with smaller leaves and little blue flowers? there's loads growing in our works car park and I'm thinking of composting it.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Our native comfrey likes shady areas & has pale yellow flowers.

I wonder if you've found alkanet ?

Mmm not sure Aunty  :?  the leaves don't look that prickly, could be perennial
Sow thistle though. Perhaps I better take another pick in the morning or just wait for it to flower, the buds look as though they might be blue.
