McCulloch drive belt

hello again... :D

More problems with mowers

but hopefully the last one

I bought a used mower, (model number m40-450cd) for my dad a while back.
The drive belt has come off because one of the the wheels jammed. I cleaned the wheel drive teeth and all was ok with it. But now have trouble with the refitting of the drive belt.
The clutch has plenty of movement to allow the belt to be refitted. Once on, there isnt any way to line the pulley up with the drive so the belt doesn,t come off again.

At its maximum (when it hits a plastic stopper) the clutch pulley is at such an angle that the belt wont stay on and also the belt is really slack, but when moved the other way(tightening the belt), it lines up perfectly, but there doesnt seem any way of keeping it in the right place.

On my McCulloch, there is an adjuster for it, which can be screwed out for releasing the clutch for fitting a new belt, and then tightened back up which keeps the belt tight.
I cant see any holes or anything where an adjuster or whatever has come off.

Anyone got a similar model to enlighten me please

I THINK I`ve solved it.

Looking at a parts list available online, there is a spring available as a part for this model. I am guessing it is used as a tensioner. Its only £2.50 so worth a try, but I`ll have to guess how it fits.
