Title: ID help with Fruit Tree
Post by: cloudcooking on February 17, 2012, 13:28
Hi Everyone,

I've just taken over a plot which needs a lot of clearing. There is however this fruit tree (at least that's what I think it is!), which I am loathe to remove as it looks healthy. Can anyone tell me what it is ? any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is a crackin' looking tree.

I should do a little light pruning with a sharp pair of secatures.    First take out any branches with obvious signs of disease and damage, next remove any that show signs of rubbing against other branches.

Finally remove about 3 - 4 inches from the ends of those whippy branches and removing any rough grass from around the stem, this is the way beasties will get into your tree.

and that should do you until you discover just what it is!   Don't forget to let us know what it turns out to be.    ::)  Cheers,     Tony..

If it flowers before the leaves come then it's probably a cherry.

I would agree with it being Cherry, from the look of the bark. :)

Prunus, most likely cherry as said, so do not prune till drier spring time.

yeh id also put my money on it being a cherry just from the clusters of buds and the colour of the bark
