Title: Making a list on my Laptop
Post by: mrs bouquet on January 06, 2021, 15:05
I am embarrassed to ask, but were do I go to make a list of Authors and Books I have read.  In the old days, pre computers at the library, the assistant could see you record, and say, you've read that.   Now, they cannot do that.  So how can I do it here at home. Thanks,   Simple words please  !  Mrs Bouquet

If you go to https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/libraries/
and open an online account, once you've done that, from then on (assuming it works in the same way as the Kent version does) it will automatically keep a history of all the books you have borrowed.

If your laptop is running Windows, and you only want to create a list, Notebook would do the job - just save it to somewhere you can easily find it again (desktop?) so you can update it easily as and when...

(I'm sure other options are available if you're not a Windows user.)

Can you get hold of a spreadsheet programme? There's a free one in 'Open Office', which you can then download, and it's as good as anything Microsoft chucks at you.

If you can use Google Chrome, they have a free spreadsheet prog as well, and I use this for exactly the same list as you want to do! All you do is write the titles in one column, the author in the next, and any notes like 'terrible' in another! I also have a star rating for each book, and can then sort out the authors who I like, for when we get to the library, or want to order anything online.

But then I'm a 'nerd' when it comes to complicated lists...

ask at the library when it opens if they have a list on your account and how to access it.

I can't be sure, but the list may already be online, if your account is 'live'.

We can access our lists going back some years, at least since they computerised the system, which I think works pretty well!

Did you get an email frm KCC about a further extension Mum? I have a book which is too big to get through the letter box in the village, and also Cranbrook!!
