Hello,
Just been to collect my eggs from the nestbox and a weird looking egg had been laid. Only got 2 chickens, one has been laying perfectly ever sicne she began 3 weeks ago, the other has laid some good eggs but then perhaps wont lay any for a few days or they might be soft. Today, had a perfect egg from one but the other had laid an egg that was really pale, very pointy at one end and at that end there was a hole the size of a pea which was ragged round the edges. Yolk and everything still inside, havent cracked it open yet.

Any suggestions as to why this egg formed like this and to why this chicken lays differently to the other???

She sounds like a young bird and may improve with more practice.  They don't always get it right straight from the start.

Do you give them oster shells? That hardens the eggs.

I´ve gone through 3 bags of oyster shell, a load of snails, crushed egg shells, a white powder (? :shock: ) crushed calcium with vit c tablets, still a soft shelled egg.  If I could find out which hen is laying it I would take her off to the vet to see what is wrong!
The small hens are laying eggs now and their shells are rock hard, have to really bash them to open them

Vit D is what they need rather than Vit C Pamela.

Can you isolate one hen at a time to find the culprit ?
