My setup (bought more chuckys)
« on: July 09, 2009, 16:07 »
ive just finished work on my chuck extension run and thought id shove some piccys up (and i guess say "hi" aswell)

been out at the weekend and bought some more chickens

we lost beryl a couple of weeks ago (to death, not like losing a set of car keys) , and the other 3 were looking a bit glum, so i built them a massive extension to their run and bought them some new friends

run extension

and these are our new girls, there are 2 speckledy ones , 2 white ones with grey round their necks, and 2 of the black ones (cou cou, sussex, and pied, but im stumped if i can remember which way round the breeds are)

and this is a picture of the older 3, we have 1 hipswell white, and 2 rhode rock blues

they are all getting along really well, and we are getting between 5/6 eggs a day, and the eggs are flippin lovely

hi there and welcome to the forum . thats one nice looking run there with very happy girlies in it but u may want to down size the wire u have used to maybe 1 inch by inch holes as a fox may just be able to get his teeth into the holes easily . i think its 19 guage thats seems best to use { someone else will know } u can easily go round what u have already put up an just give your run a second layer of wire .

you'll be surprised what a fox will break though .

hi coxy - it's a FAB run!
I agree with looby though - you probably only need to cover the first 1/2 metre after the wooden sides with the 1cm squared weld mesh.  the 19 gauge is the most common because it's a lot easier to cut than the thicker 16gauge (trust me!) it's the size that'a most important - fox can't get his grip on 1cm mesh.

I agree with every one nice run but if you have foxes in your area you will need to add weld mesh.

But great run.

I think your coop how ever, maybe looks far to small for 7 seven chickens and they do not have any rooting bars in the coop.  It should be at least 3ft * 3ft and have 9 inches of roosting bar per chicken. The other major issue is there is not enough ventilation, if any.  When it comes to winter they will be stuck in the coop for up to 15 and a half hours a day.
Sorry to have to tell you that but a happy chicken is a healthy chicken.
