Title: Weird egg
Post by: andymac on July 09, 2009, 19:56
  Hi folks.
Marian collected the eggs this morning as usual, and found this strange attempt of an egg.
(See pics).
Any ideas as to a cause of this, or was one of them just having a bad egg hair day.  ::)
Cheers.
Andy.

How strange, looks to me like there's an alien in that one trying to get out!

One of mine often does ones abit like that. Very pointy an/or swirly end. She also does lots of double yolkers and soft eggs. But she's only been laying a few months. It is amazing just how many different shapes n saizes they come in and from the same hen. I guess we are all so used to standardised eggs.

We get a fair few like that. I think it indicates they might have a few internal problems but without any other symptoms, it's hard to say. We've had a couple of lashes (odd brown lumpy things that are the lining of the oviduct or somethign similar) so I assume it's the same hen.

We don't sell those ones in case it scares the customers

Thanks for your replies so far.
I think it's probably just a blip, as all other eggs so far have been fine and yummy. I guess I'll just keep that one out of interest, and maybe start a wierd egg collection.
Cheers.
Andy :)

If you are going to keep it permanently, you'd better blow it first!   :) ;)

If you haven't already discovered the Poultry Pages on our site

http://www.poultry.allotment-garden.org/Chicken_a/egg_shell_color/pale-eggs.php

explains a lot about eggs, and if navigate around, you can find a lot more information besides. :)
