I think the peach tree is dead! Advice please.
« on: October 11, 2012, 15:32 »
I scratched some bark off my Peregine peach tree today and I think it's dead :(
Has anyone in my area successfully grown one of these in my area? (West Yorks)
Is it worth me trying again or should I stick in an apple tree or perhaps someone can suggest something else,I already have 2 plums and a cherry.
It's better to burn out than to fade away !!     ;)

Knowing the W. Yorks climate well, I strongly doubt you could grow a Peach Tree outside, I would think it would be too wet and cold. Apples / Pears / Nuts should do well.

What makes you think it's dead, and where are you growing it?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I scratched some bark off and it didn't look very green underneath and well, it just looks dead!
It's on the allotment in between and 10ft either way from the other 2 trees.
The allotment has a 6ft solid fence on 3 sides and a building along the other so it's reasonably closed in.It's south facing and it does get warm with only a little sunshine.
I was told that the Peregrine peach does ok in northern Europe so thought it would be ok.
The ground is neither water logged nor too dry.

I planted a peach tree this spring, it was very late getting leaves and I thought it was dead.
But it has now got a good crop of leaves I have a trouble with Peach Leaf Curl which I caught early and sprayed to get rid off.
I  am only about 20 miles from you could yours have lost its leafs due to leave curl.

The leaves get red blisters and fall early

I would leave it in till next spring and sray with a fungicide if the leaves break.

Hope this helps

Thanks Syks, the leaves that grew weren't big enough to curl! They were only very small approx 1cm then they disappeared.
I think I'll just leave it until spring and see what happens   ???
