Has anyone tried growing this?

Watched Jamie talking about this the other day about it being 3 years before you can actually pick this stuff and wondered if anyone had had any success!

Once young asparagus plants are put in the ground correctly, they're very easy to grow. And yes, you do have to wait a few years before the stalks are large enough to start harvesting. But when ready, you can harvest for easily 20 years, probably longer. And nothing beats organically grown asparagus

I have some crowns on order - i am not entirely sure where they are going to be planted. I think we will be in this house for at least another 10 (and possibly 20) years so they won't need to be moved.... Because they can saty in the ground for so long I don't want touse my "normal" veg plot to grow them - I was thibking of a link a bord patio planter but think they are too deep! More suited to some potatoes!

Thats what I thought, but didn't like to say, hoped one of the mods would merge the two I guess!

For future info what should we do, if anything, if there are duplicate posts? The only time I have seen it before one got closed with advice to use the one remaining.

well no-one can accuse you lot of not being attentive!

I have however had different responses to either so lots of info but i will try and use the correct one now.

So then in the grow your own, I'd would plant them about 1.5 foot apart if doing rows, then those about 4 feet apart, so you can get at least a dozen in there very comfortably, room to spare.

Don't worry male crowns won't be able to set seed, so won't spread.

... about whether to grow asparagus and if I hadn't dithered, I'd have been cutting spears this year ... so my advice is just do it ... lol
