Absolutely!
Looks better next week, but the season is very late starting! I reckon we're nearly a month behind already!
You've given me an idea - maybe grow a few parsnips in buckets, like we do carrots!

But I would like to know the seeds are viable before plonking them into the ground (or tubes). :)

I sow indoors on a plate, damp kitchen roll and cover with cling film. Keep the paper damp, as soon as they sprout I pot on, when they have a couple of leaves I plant on plot. New seed every year.

I have a few seeds that have sprouted, damp paper method.
I am going to sow them in loo rolls. Does it matter how long the sprout is, they range from just showing to 3-4mm
Can they go into an unheated greenhouse until they leaf up.

parsnips are something i definitely need to get rite because I always seem to end up with some sort of disaster mainly they end up forking
so I'm trying three methods N1.sowing in peat pots N2.sowing direct in the ground in bore holes filled with compost then watering the seed with hot water I've been told this helps germination tried and tested i believe by professional allotment growers :D
then there's the last resort N3 sowings in plastic drums and if that don't work Il give up growing parsnips :mad:

I can honestly say I don’t normally have a problem with sowing parsnips direct, the only issues I’ve had over the years are when I’ve sown too early following the instructions on the seed packet in my early years of growing or on one occasion I’m sure the seeds got washed away after we had torrential rain for days after I’d sown them. I honestly think waiting awhile til the ground warms up, make a drill, water it well, sprinkle the seeds in or station sow 2/3 seeds every 2” or so , cover with dry soil & wait.
As for no manure, because I do no dig I add manure to the top as a mulch(well rotted) & don’t particularly get any more forking than if the odd one hits a stone. Here’s some of mine from last year

Blackpool rocket, some of mine were 20mm long last year after chitting. But i put in in deep dibber holes filled with fine compost and every one grew to a very good size in my poor soil. Weekly feed with black bladderwrack and burdock leaf teas though. And they all grew to the perfect shape.

Did that monster one taste ok, my wife says the inner bit is inedible when they are big like that?

Yes. It was fine, I find they get woody later in the season, so I try to get them up before too long, end of February if I can, they all get chopped up for the freezer then
