Aldi apple Juice
« on: May 09, 2013, 07:58 »
I knocked up a Turbo Cider on Saturday here's the recipe
16 Cartons 1.5 lt Aldi Apple Juice
2 Kg Sugar
Lalvin Champagne Yeast.

After sanitizing my brew bucket, I warmed 4.5 Lt of juice and mixed the sugar in to dissolve it into the juice.
Waited till the juice/sugar had cooled a bit and used 500 ml to re-hydrate the yeast and make a starter. Meanwhile I filled the brew bucket with the rest of the juice/sugar and the remaining 13 cartons of juice, gave it a good stir and pitched the yeast.

Half an hour later it had a huge krausen head, it is now 5 days later the bubblier is letting the gas out every 10 seconds. I'll keep it in the bin for the rest of the week then rack it into demijohns with 500 ml of juice/sugar mix for another 2 weeks then bottle with 5 ml of sugar.

My local offy is selling 2 Lt cider in mini demis so I have a collection of these to bottle it up in. I'm looking forward to sampling this  :)

If you visit either Lidl or Aldi their apple juice is often on offer, you can add other juices to make it more "interesting"  :)

If you have a Polish shop nearby you can get their fruit syrup and add it after fermentation has finished and use it to prime the bottles  ;) Or ad a splash to a glass before you drink .... instant fruity cider   :)

Do the preservatives (sulphites) in the apple juice retard the yeast from working?
