Rusty rain water
« on: June 08, 2008, 11:19 »
Hello all,

I've been collecting rain water in my wheel barrow, to top up my water butt. It's quite rusty though and now the waters gone all orangy after mixing with the rust. Is it still ok to use with vegetables and plants.

Thanks.

I was wondering myself about rust until I saw a gardening programme where our Mr Titchmarsh was doing some handy work and he deliberately left a rusty nail in the soil adding that the iron from the rust was a good additive.

I also read that it was fine to leave metal staples in the paper when disposing of same in the compost.

I would assume that would cover your situation too.
If it rots compost it
If it burns burn it
If it is chocolate eat it
