Title: Cutting back asparagus
Post by: Paulj on December 10, 2012, 19:21
In my other post you'll see I just got a new plot since we moved and it comes with an established asparagus bed. Currently though everything is brown and still sort of standing.  To ensure a good crop do I need to get on with cutting it all back now?

Does the bed need any manure over winter?  We have a free source o that's no problem.  I just want to ensure I keep it alive and growing well next year, so all tips appreciated!

Just as you said, Cut it down leaving 100mm of stem so you know where the plant's are . Then give it a good helping of manure, the well rotted type.

If your ground isn't too frozen, get rid of any weeds before mulching with well-rotted manure.
