Leek seeds......not germinating?!

I've now tried 3 times (unsuccessfully) to germinate Leek seeds.

and just nothing happens. I'm sowing them in a tray in the poly tunnel. Can anyone help please? :roll:

What time of year have you sown them? How hot does the poly tunnel get?

I read that you can plant now in a heated propagator, but that was for leeks for showing, everything else says Jan/Feb as Shaun says

yes spring time/late winter is the time to start sowing.

Thanks all. The poly doesn't get too hot as I keep the doors open both ends. I thought that to sow now in the poly was an OK time of year.....and friends have said their's are well away now :? I might ditch the rest of the packet and try again.............maybe in February

Onions and Leeks don't need any extra heat to germinate and will actually be worse if you do manage to germinate in heat.

If you sow now and do manage to get them to germinate they'll almost certainly run to seed prematurely.

You really just want to wait 'till late Feb-April and just sow about 5mm deep at about 50-60 f and they should be up within a fortnight and then you'll be laughing.

Patience is the key and no added heat.
