Anyone else grown this?
I bought 6 cloves last year for £1.99, broke my heart when i opened the bag, thought i was buying 6 bulbs not cloves.
Anyway to make it worse they grew well but started going to seed a few weeks ago, Snapped the seed heads off, and they havent seeded again, but when i dug one out it seem to be just one solid bulb about the size of a small onion, tasting and smelling of garlic but not much strength.
Maybe this is a result of going off to seed. Any ideas please?

Well elephant garlic is actually leek so its going to have a milder smell and taste than true garlic.

When did you plant them?  I haven't grown elephant garlic but true garlic needs a period of cold for the clove to split, elephant garlic may be the same.

I would replant them somewhere where you can leave them undisturbed until next year.  Or pull them up and store them somewhere cool and dry to replant in the autumn.  You should get a better crop from them next year.

I don't think, it's anything you have done. As DD says, the flavour supposed to be second to none, as Owl says they are a leek, so often happens that they don't split. Flowering is rather common for them, too. That's just how they are.

You won't be alone! This has cropped (ha-ha) up before.

Bit early for harvesting wait til late july early august. You were right to take the flower heads off - the bulbs will be swelling now.

Keep your single bulb and replant in september it'll have a head start for next year.

Flavour is too mild to use as normal garlic. We enjoy it as whole cloves in a stir fry or ratatouille but pop them in just 2 or 3 minutes before finishing cooking otherwise they just melt away
