Title: Natural remedies.
Post by: RubyRed on September 08, 2020, 21:56
6 weeks ago I slipped a disc for the 2nd time in 3 years. I'm off work. It's been driving me nuts and I've been in tears with pain and frustration. As my grandma would say, " I don't know if im on my a**e or myelbow. After getting a ring back from the Dr after 2 days of trying i have been prescribed, co codamol, diazepam, metal an and something else I can't remember but nothing really deadened the pain. In desperation I wanted it to hurt even more so when it got easier it wouldn't hurt so much. I know what I mean. Anyway I went into the garden , pulled a load of nettles out and thrust them onto my back. After the initial ouch, which actually wasn't as bad as on my hands, magically the pain gradually disappeared. It had numbed it. It lasted a good 6 hours before I resorted to the tabs again. I told my other half to sting his hand to help with his arthritus and he said it eased it a bit. I do it every other day and will think about it for other aches and pains.

Sorry to hear you've been in such pain and hope it clears up soon.  I've heard of this before, in relation to arthritis, so you're not alone in trying this to help.  But obviously we're not a medical forum so anyone else thinking of trying it will need to do their own research rather than take this as medical advice.

I was driven to it and whilst not advocating it, I wouldn't get addicted to it like prescribed morphine. ☺

Well done Ruby!

You only have to Gurgle 'nettles for pain', and several sites mention these benefits, especially for arthritis!

Have you also got the plans for exercising, to take the pressure of the disk? My fave is lying on the edge of the bed, with the bad leg on the inside (depending where it hurts), and bringing this leg over the good one and hanging it over the outside...

While  this might seem like Chapter 5 from '50 shades of green', it's a logical stretching movement to open the disc and it takes the pressure off the nerve!

As Yorkie says, this isn't a place for anything more than encouragement and non-professional advice, but as for nettles, they're a great addition to any garden - and they also tell you you have good soil too...

I hope you and Mr Ruby continue to get better!

I've never resorted to nettles, but often sit up at night drinking a cup of tea, whilst waiting for the co-dydramol to work  ::) Ask your Dr for that, it's stronger than Co-codamol, trust me!
It depends where your problem is, but my Osteopath told me to lie face down with a pillow under the lower arch of your back (just above your buttocks) so that the arch is straightened out, and your legs drop over the side of the bed.
I actually do the stretch over the side of a chest of drawers, the extra height means my legs hang freely, which increases the stretch - it works for me :)

There's another one which, while a bit more brutal, works wonders...

Lie on the floor, on your back, and hook your legs over a broomstick placed across two dining room chairs, so that the stick is under your knees. Let your feet and ankles go free.

Shuffle around, until you realise that your lower back disks are in fact off the floor, and you'll have then opened up the disks to their full extremity!

(I did this in our Maidstone office once, and our lovely secretary wandered in, just as I realised I'd loosened the trousers and help make the pain just go away..;0~ )

Sometimes it takes just a few minutes to explain, but as she was so gorgeous, I seem to remember that I took about half an hour...

Thank you all for your ideas . Growster you made me laugh talking about someone walking in on you after loosening your trousers. ::) :tongue2: . Mmm. That old excuse.lol.The trouble is my pain is acute between my spine and shoulder blade. In the thorassic area. I'm staying away from gargle because there are also a few other things in that area I'm concerned about. Fingers crossed it is just slipped disc, as bad as that is. After 7 weeks it is no better and today its driven me nuts. Arrrgh.

Sorry to hear about your pain.  I have heard of nettle treatment before.  There was an article in the paper yesterday about the benefits of nettles on your face.  I guess if you can use it there, you can use it anywhere.
I am a great believer in these old and natural ways.     But each to their own. !  Hope you feel more comfortable soon.    regards  Mrs Bouquet
