i bought a variety called spring hero from tuckers seeds online, it sayes to sow mid july to aug and transplant sept to oct,  might be the ticket if your looking to sow now.
it was the first time i've ordered seeds online and i was pleased, seeds came with a handy info card and the site had a good selection

If you're talking about for winter harvest - too late.

Spring cabbage needs to be sown now.

Here's the......

Sowing & Harvest Guide
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Any spring cabbage can be sown up to August, doubledug, it will narrow the choice down, but won't pinpoint it.

We're are talking of spring cabbage here, fatbelly asked about winter ones.

They're still not the winter cabbage that fatbelly was asking about :(

They were selling January King winter cabbage, ready for planting, at the bootfair last week, so you might strike lucky if you have a look around.

What would happen if winter cabbage seeds were sown now?  Would they not produce something edible even if it's not the fully mature cabbage?

Doubt it. Winter cabbage need up to 6 months growing time to produce. We're talking 10-12 weeks left of decent growing time before things stop in their tracks.

You could try one of the fast maturing types like Primo/Golden Acre. You probably won't get a full solid head but you should still get some useful greens.

That's what I thought, more of a winter greens than solid cabbage head.  For the price of a few seeds anything is worth a try.
