Sad to say  :( when it gets dark they stay at home. Winter crops are harvested when necessary.
Much time is spent, however, planning the next year - seed catalogues, bits of paper, photographs. All those jobs which had to wait while they were having fun on the plot are (perhaps!!) done in winter, then in February (hooray) it all starts again. She hates winter - her nose is pressed to the window, her heart is outside.

A lot of digging and preparation is done late autmn, early winter (during the day if it's not too wet) to let the frosts help with the work.
Keep the plot cultivated, that's the best way to ensure its future.

Yep winter is the time for planning as Oliver says: but if you're really determined buy one of those headlamps that potholers and cavers use . There I've just proved my madness whose next?  :D

Its amazing how your eyes adjust during the twilight. When you think about it its only really December and January where you can't  work away until about 5:30ish especially if the sky is clear. If there is snow on the ground it helps with the light (but what can you usefully do outside?)
Ah well ! There is always next year !

Is it not that time of year when we go into our sheds and hibernate, supping occasionally from the Rhubarb Schnapps, waiting to emerge, butterfly-like, come the spring?
