Blue Ballet squash
« on: August 24, 2009, 16:38 »
Anyone know when I should harvest my Blue Ballet squash?  Do I treat it like pumpkin and leave it on the plant until autumn and then will it store indefinitely? Or should I pick it sooner?
Also, (I only have two actual fruits!  :( ) one is the right colour ie. the blue/grey the seed catalogue describes, the other is darker green with stripes. Anyone have any explanation for that?

It is a Winter squash, so leave it on the vine till the plant dies down naturally. If you ripen it off, it will store for several months. It sounds as if your seed has not been bred true to type.
