Have my potatoes been impregnated by aliens?
« on: August 12, 2012, 16:35 »
I started digging up what was I thought a row of Pentland javelin spuds but turned out to be desiree.  Last year I had some wonderful desiree - some pretty big but all nice and smooth although did have scab probably due to lack of water.  Well... the ones dug up yesterday are most peculiar.  Much smaller - but then again I think they need longer in the ground.  But what is odd is that quite a few seem to have these large knobbly bits on them.  As though they have boils.  Even one very small one has four pretty large knobs on them.  Never seen anything like it.  It seems about one in five has these strange growths.  Have the aliens landed in my potato plot?

I have looked at photos of pink fir apples and the knobbly bits look quite similar but mine are not long and thin, they are definately round and look like normal potatoes but with knobbly bits.  Perhaps they are a cross breed???

I have a hunch that Anya is a cross from PFA?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

dont worry too much about it, you can eat the knobbly bits, the thing is we are all used to supermarket veg, we all expect this perfect shape, well nature isn't like that, the supermarkets reject "weird" shaped veg, its just something you will get used to, think of the taste not the shape
