gherkins

Anyone grown these before?  Do I start off in pots or sow direct?

I've had good success with mine - I just grow them on as you would cucumbers.  I start them off in pots in the greenhouse and plant them outdoors after the last frost (hopefully now past!).

If anyone needs a recommendation, Cornichon de Paris is easy to grow and gives a superb yield - it really flourished last year when my outdoor cuke's gave up the ghost!

My first time with gherkins and I have a plant in a container with half rotted manure and half compost.. Its doing very well and I need to pick a couple already!

Whats best to do with them ? Should I pickle them straight away or leave till i have enough for a jar ? Can they be eaten as they are ? sorry lol im new to all this
