Soup maker
« on: October 18, 2012, 20:52 »
A guy at work mentioned that he has treated his wife to a soup maker and he said it cost about £100 but he could not remember the make.

Has anyone used one of these machines? Are they any good as I make a lot of soup.

A friend of mine got one but wasn't impressed as they didn't make very much at a time.

She and I find a good large stock pot is more useful and if a smooth blend is wanted we use a hand held stick liquidiser.

We make a large amount at a time and then freeze the extra.

I do have a thermomix which is similar to a soup maker but rarely use it for that as it doesn't make very much at a time either.

Lakeland sell it (among others) but I think that it's a bit of a gimmick.

I use a large casserole dish and then a stick blender.

Edit: Here's the link to the Lakeland one, but I'm sure that's a different brand from the one they previously sold, which was nearer £80.

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I looked at the expensive ones and then someone mentioned one that was on QVC, i got it for £38 and it works a treat. i put all the ingredients in it and then press the button, 30 minutes later i have home made soup.

it does exactly the same as the pricely ones.
Gained an allotment on the 19th June 08, 135ft by 40ft! eekk. Finally after 4 years it is looking like an allotment and not a jungle

We have 5 lovely hens in the garden, fish, 2 dogs and 2 canaries

Yes, Cuisinart, that was the make my friend got. It really is a gimmick and not that good to use either.

A bit like the jam maker.

Sometimes low tech works best. ;)

Arrrgh.

Just got sight of this.

I agree with CQ and the rest.

Anyone who needs to spend £100 on a soup maker needs to speak with me first.

Ever been missed sold a PPI?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I use a pot (pan) and stick blender if smooth soup is required. I've been considering getting a liquidiser - but not a soup maker which cooks it too - but I don't know if I'd use it enough to have it taking up cupboard space. I need to do something now as I killed my stick blender on some soup blending yesterday and using the food processor is a faff. :(

Exactly!  That's the way to do it  :D

I use the pan from my pressure cooker as it's huge. I think I've used it every day for the last 32 years and it was second hand when I got it  :D

I'm afraid I agree with the others on here.  I have seen these soup makers demonstrated at shows.  Look good, soup in a few minutes.  But good old stock pot or whatever and a stick blender.

I save and freeze all my leftover bits of cooked veg, then when I've got enough, defrost in the pan overnight, blitz with the blender, a bit of seasoning and lunch is ready!   ;)

i used to use a saucepan and my kenwood chef blender but it just made more mess having to transfer the food to be blended and the stick blender was the same cost as the soup maker. i made butternut squash soup today for lunch, was lovely  :D

good idea about freezing the veg, never thought of that (not that we ever have much veg left over!)
