Jam maker

Has anyone seen/used the jam maker from lakeland, if it is as good as a breadmaker for giving reliable results, I would seriously consider one as I managed to burn one lot of chutney this year and overset one lot of jam  One slice or 2 (no the jam not the bread)

I've not actually got one yet Carol. Just dream! Have decided that I'm definitely not going to make jam in the bread maker though. Since the daughter bought me a bread maker and George Foreman Health Grill for x-mas, she should buy her Dad a Jam Maker for his birthday (it's a lot sooner than mine)!

I'm dreaming too, I'm sure John would love one for his birthday    I must admit I'd hate to be without the breadmaker now and if the jam machine came into that category I'd be delighted but it is too expensive to have and then find it joins the "under the sink collection". Don't think there will be any on freecycle for a while

One of my problems - can chuck (or rather "place" preserving pan on top of other stuff on top of larder unit in the utility/garage) but need space for anything electrical. Managed to re-organise the worktop in there to accommodate the bread maker but I'm really getting stuck now. All our base units are full to the gunnels.

I know what you mean, I was lucky enough to be able to design my kitchen here from scratch and I put loads of cupboards in, I had 2 empty ones when we moved into it.............. 2 and a half years on they are all full  my excuse is that I do loads of catering for things at church and I NEED all that stuff (insulated jugs, old spare cutlery, plastic picnic plates and bowls and 4 serving platters) Then someone gave me an old Burco boiler to cook my Christmas puds in (well I did make 90) I need kitchen gadgets like men need wood

John in his "past" life was a Kitchen Designer and in fact had a couple of kitchen businesses. He still has a lot of "contacts" in the business and, when we moved here, 6 years ago, the first thing we did was the kitchen to allow a massive amount of cupboards. The "garage" comes off the kitchen and we never put a car in one so that had yet more cupboards, the washing machine and tumble drier and a freezer and more worktops. All full. I do wonder if I need so many casseroles but can't get rid of anything.

Took the plunge and gotone after reading about it on here.

The small amounts arn't a problem here, no where to keep loads of jarrs etc.

Made some marmalade, and it realy is true home made is by far the best.

Looking forward to fruit seasin this year

Seville oranges have come in to Walthamstow market. Just thought I'd mention it.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Do you not have wild oranges there? My mum is in Cyprus and there are wild oranges and they make brilliant marmalade. Also if you don't have time to make marmalade while the oranges are in season then freeze whole and cook from frozen then they will not go dark.

For anyone who loves home-made marmalade but hasn't got the time or inclination to spend hours chopping and boiling, check out this recipe:

http://www.allotment-garden.org/recipe/915/processormicrowave-citrus-marmalade-recipe/

You need a very large mixing bowl and of course a food processor and a microwave. I've tried it with mixed citrus fruit and it makes 3 1lb jars with a bit left over for immediate sampling on hot toast!

The results are heavenly .
