Title: First eggs?

Well, how exciting. Had my new girls a couple of weeks now - Thelma (blue), Pepper (barred), Vera (light sussex), and Daisy (black/rhode rock).

Got a bit of a fright this morning when I heard a mad scrabbling in the pen and couldn't find Thelma... turns out she's hiding in a corner, very hard to see. I think she's laying her first egg. Also, Daisy and Pepper are in nest boxes and I think they're trying to lay too! Could I be lucky enough to get three 'first lays' today???

Poor Vera is wandering round the pen, shouting loudly at them all, wondering why none of them are coming out to play with her!  :D

 :lol:  Vera is probably complaining as she is wanting to get in the nest box.  Sometimes they will sit in the nest box on and off for a few days before they first lay.  Other times they lay straight away.  Once one starts to lay that can spur the others on but they all develop at different rates even if they were the same breed.  Sounds as if you won't have to wait too much longer for your first very special eggs so you had better decide how you are going to cook them.   ;)

I got two!!! Daisy making a meal of it still though. Boiled eggs and soldiers for lunch, gotta be!  :D

There is no better tasting egg than your first home laid one, enjoy.   :D

nerdle, that's quite enterprising but i would like to see the faces of the non chicken people in the card shops - they just wouldnt get it.

I'm off to make one right now, by the time i've finished it my silkies might have started laying.

Crikey, I'm good, but not that good.

I make cards (but not Christmas cards as it would take me all year .........arghhhhhh! now you've made me say that word and were only in July) I will be on the naughty step now  :unsure:
