Blue Chicken Eggs??????????
« on: May 14, 2008, 16:29 »
My allotmenteer neighbour Beadwindow is insisting that he is about to get hold of some rare chickens for his allotment that lay blue eggs! I have never heard of blue chicken eggs and fear that he is mocking me due to my lack of Gallus Domesticus knowledge (and my knobbly knees).

He refuses to tell me the name of the particular breed in case I copy him, which makes me think it is definately a wind-up.

Is there such a beast that is capable of laying blue eggs and if so, are there any other colourful egg laying chickens that I could get hold of so I could amaze my children at breakfast with green, blue, red and orange eggs.

I don't believe it.

The Aracuana is one and a proper chicken person, with a memory and not a head of Jelly will be along soon to tell you the others  I think you should be ahead in the wind up stakes with this person though 8)     I am sure we can come up with a great one for you

Thanks Slatz and Jellyhead, so he wasn't winding me up.

Are these chickens easily available in the UK and are there more chicken breeds that produce other strange coloured eggs?

If you really want to wind him up why not colour a couple of eggs with food colouring on the shells? Then slip them under the hens!! :D

The columbine is a hybrid that lays blue or green pastel coloured eggs, in various shades apparently! I'm waiting for the pink version myself

Please let me apologize for my simple allotmenteer neighbour "Sharkwatch" for bothering you good people who are obviously passionate about your foul.

He seems to have picked up on a comment I made to him about his
BLUE CHICKEN LEGS!!!

Somehow he has misconstrued this flippant comment about his knees and has took the time to bother you good people.

Aunt Sally, that ban button you mentioned before? well you might want to exercise your mouse button finger....
