hiya

i bought 2 pekin bantams last april at which point they were about 10 weeks old.  i wasn't expecting any eggs from them for the first few months but now they're approximately a year old and still none.

i'm aware that true breeds don't lay as often and this particularly cold winter has meant they're unlikely to start right now but was wondering if they are even likely to start at all.  is it possible they'll begin in the spring?  they share a run with 4 hybrids but don't get bullied too much for their size.  i wonder if this could be a factor however?

has anyone had any similar experiences with pekins?

Hi some of my pekins have'nt starting laying yet I think its the weather, personally I find a lot of hybrids spitefull to other birds   and would'nt keep pekins with them

hiya,

the hybrids don't give them too much grief - though they are clearly the bottom of the pecking order.  the pekins spend a large part of their day sitting on an upturned coldframe keeping themselves to themselves.

i just hope that once the weather warms up the pekins will start laying.  its not really the eggs i'm after - but was hoping one of them would go broody so I could raise some chicks
