wisteria
« on: June 03, 2012, 17:19 »
I've had a wisteria in my garden for nearly 10 years (I bought it as a baby) so I knew not to expect flowers for a few years ;).  Anyway, its been getting flowers just nicely over the last three years, in fact last year, it was an amazing show, absolutely groaning with flowers :D, but this year nothing, not anything :(.  Last year, after the flowering season, I trimmed (and I mean trimmed not hacked) it, just to tidy it up rather, in fact I do this every year, just to stop it hitting the floor basically .  Is it one of those things?  Apart from that, it looks perfectly healthy

1. Pruning - did you follow the method set out in this thread and the one linked to in it?

2. Did you feed it at all - and if so, with what?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Hi Yorkie, yup that's what I do, just cut the wippie ones, as they really spurt along pretty radidly.  And on point 2, I don't fertlise it.  The only things I ever fertise are annual plans, ie, my veggies.

All my bushes do great without ever having to fertlise them.

Perhaps a high potash feed to boost bud formation, with rose fertiliser might help.
I know normally wisteria are 'hard' and grow best without feeding much, but after last year's bounty it might be abut hungry now
