Tulip bulbs
« on: March 31, 2011, 15:49 »
I have noticed the bulbs we bought loose fair far better and give a better display than pre packaged ones.  Anyone else noticed this?  We bought them at Haskins in Rusington.

The tulips above we bought for last year they came up again though, BUT this year we missed them so my question is when do the garden centres start selling bulbs like tulips and daffs?

thanks
Sheila

Not until late Summer/Autumn. Daffs should be planted by October, tulips by December at the latest.

Both types will grow for me, but I must agree that my best showings are the loose bulbs.  they also tend to be larger and healthier looking than packaged which always seem smaller, to probably fit into the various pricings the suppliers want to market.
