Hi redfig.

Firstly, welcome to the forums.

Could you please put your location in your profile, this will greatly assist in answering your question as someone local to you may know.

Perhaps you could pop along to the "Welcome" forum & tell us a bit about yourself.

I'll move this to the "General Gardening" forum, as the GYO is generally for edibles. (Yes OK - you can eat the seed, but that's not the intention here!).
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

sorry for hi-jacking the thread but does anyone know how many sunflowers you would need to be able to press a litre of sunflower oil???

This site doesn't say how many, but gives the area needed...

http://www.green-trust.org/2000/biofuel/sunfloweroil.htm

2,500 sq ft for 3 US galls.

Doing the sums....

2,500 sq ft for 11.37 litres
219.9 sq ft for 1 litre
20.5 sq m for 1 litre

I think!

My plots therefore = 40 litres = not worth it!
