How to stop a planter from sinking
« on: April 26, 2021, 10:00 »
I recently had a part of the flower bed dug back, so that a concrete spur could be put in the ground to support a fence post.     The soil there is quite soft now and I have bought shredded compost to dig in.   I have a heavy container that I want to plant up and put in front of the spur, and have got  small slab to stand container on.
But how do I stop the slab and container sinking into the newly dug soft soil ?   Mrs Bouquet

I would have thought you'd need to compact and level the soil first, perhaps by stomping it down
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thanks for your reply, I have trampled it and found a "bonker" in the shed.   So I did all that, put the very heavy container on it, but it was the wrong place, had to move it 10 inches    Mrs B

Yes I’d have tamped it down with a lamb of wood, bonker! don’t think you’d need to dig in compost if you’re going to put a slab on it though
Did your greenhouse & house renovations ever get finished?

Hi, Thank you for asking.  The greenhouse and adjoining potting shed got finished in the end.   I told the first man to go, and just paid him for some materials and a bit of labour.   Then I got a man I know, and I know his work, to come in a take some of it down and do a proper rebuild to both bits.  It cost a lot of money, but I am delighted with it and put table and two chairs in there for my coffee.  Thanks again  Mrs B
