I went to B&Q for their "bales" of compost (got 6 last year). The bales were the same price as last year BUT 150 litres instead of 125 litres. £10 for two.

:(We dont even have B&Q in the Dordogne - nearest thing to a downside of living here I've yet found though! :)

Last years were 125litres, this year they are 150litres.

did you get 2 bags for £10 because i cant see it in my local b&q think they were about £7 for the 150 litre one so still not bad though

Yes, I think they were £6.87 each or £10 for two. I've already got four will probably get another two or four.

my local farm shop is great for compost.
Picked up 3 x 70 litres of Bowers Multipurpose for £10 all in yesterday.

my local b&q also has the grow bags on 4 for £5 think they are either 30 or 33 litres

Got mine eventually, at our local horticultural place. 75 litres for £2.50, but I'm only allowed 4! Brian thinks I spend too much money on my veggies. Strange though, he eats the veg after its harvested!!!! ::)

That's near my target price, which is 4 x 80 litres for £10 at Wickes (as sold last year).
I bought a few more using some money off coupons from newspapers before Christmas, but nothing seems cheap anymore.

It's always worth checking out the corner where they have reduced priced/damaged bags:

That's defo a good buy David! Shame our Wickes is only tiny and doesn't do compost and stuff, and our local places like that are at least 8 miles away, so I only get out about once a week, and always miss the best bargains!!! :(

We have been looking around for compost or top soil to raise the level of our new veg bed - never done this before but worth a try! lol
anyway what a price difference where you go! we looked at many web sites which ranged from around £61 -£120 pounds for a tonne we only need roughly half that then contacted a company down the road from us who said we could collect half a tonne of good quality stuff for £10-£15 8) ......... pays to shop arround doesnt it! :)

Hm, my hubby bought me 2 x 60L bags of westland organic vegetable growing compost with added nutrients, holds water etc @ 4.99 a bag. For round here it's not a bad bargain. You have to knead it cos it's compacted in the bag & it swells & holds water well. I intend getting more for my spud barrel.
