Broad beans

Hi,
regarding planting - -
Do I plant them straight into the ground on the lotty  or into single cells first to get established??
If the answer is plant straight into thr ground do I need to cover them to protect them from the pigeons?

Just make sure you get the right variety eg aquadulce
