Title: Calabrese, Corn, Pest Problems
Post by: John on July 03, 2021, 16:29
The weather’s a bit like the curate’s egg – good in parts! Getting on with things when the weather permits, some of the highlights.

Well done with the Calabrese, John, it looks lovely :) Mine is outside and looks ok, but obviously, nowhere near a harvest yet, sad to say - but it's  called Autumn Green for a reason  :D

Greatly helped by them sitting on a load of sheep muck, which I had huge amounts of when the chap across the road cleared his lambing sheds. Leafy brassicas seem to love very manure rich soil. Must admit they've done better than I expected.

That spent litter from the lambing sheds must be such a boon.

You are going to get a good rich depth of soil applying that on a regular basis  :)

That mountain of muck he delivered has transformed the soil - really added body and structure. Worm population has increased as well. What a job moving it was, though!
Unfortunately he likes to spread the love around, maybe next year we'll get another load but no certainty.
