What breed would they be? PHOTO added!!
« on: May 11, 2010, 11:27 »
My ´rescue´chicks are now HUGE  they were from the chicken  factory, where they breed chicks for meat, not eggs.   They look like my other hens which are Rhode Island Reds  but are twice the size of the other birds.  Any ideas of the breed?

From the picture we saw before Pamela, they look a bit like our Coloryields, but yours are a bit darker brown!

I´m at the library- with my pen thingy putting a photo into photobucket.... here goes:

This is the cockerel

See the rat tunnel in the corner?  It goes into the olive grove. We have set poison down it and blocked it up and the hole was opened again, so we set traps caught a rat.  Closed up the hole and it is open again.... last night I set 4 traps- the food went from 3, but the traps didnçt go off

This is Turkey.... she didn´t want me to bother her, I had to chase her about the garden to take her photo!  She gives us an egg most days now- I use them to bake cakes with :D

This was turkey last September when we got her:
Sorry the other one was our Christmas dinner!

Turkey thinks she is a guard turkey, she honks at anyone who goes past or comes into the garden.... she is out early warning system!
She keeps getting a swollen sinus, always on the same side, it can be swollen in the morning and then down an hour later.  The vets here know nothing about hens and the like, so I am off to the chemist to ask advice!
Pamela
ps she has had antibiotics before and they don´t seem to do anything for her

This may sound very stupid, but does she have anything stuck up there?, a grain bit of grit?If she is anything like mine her eye sight for close up is poor, she is always missing the food and ends up getting a face full of dirt :nowink:. Mine peeps at everything too, but because she wants a hug :)

I agree with Joyfull - Buff Sussex.  I have a buff sussex and she has the black round her neck and on her tail feathers.  Mine are more marked around the neck but when I saw her I thought they looked very similar.
