Hello all,

Not been on here in a while, I have kept hens for a number of years now, but wanting to do a project at local school we are wanting to hatch our own chicks, what advice do people have with regards buying an incubator I want an automatic turning of eggs and also I e that keeps temperature regulated, ie air flow. Also is it true or a myth that if you keep eggs a certain way that they are more likely to be hens and not cockerels?. Any links to good incubators or advice would be great!

I dont use one but Brinsea are supposed to be good and they have different models to suit every bodies needs. I would suggest though that you get an automatic one to save you having to turn the eggs several times a day.

the way you store eggs has no effect on the sex of the chicks, that is down to the cockerel. As you are looking to do this at a school I would suggest you buy colour sexed eggs so at least you will know which chicks are male from day one.
