One of my ex-batts was ill last week and it was a hard task trying to find a vet here in Devon that knew enough about poultry to be useful.

The BHWT had some names but none local enough - as it was an emergency I didn't want to take my hen for a long drive. 

Does anyone know if there is some sort of register that advises on specialist poultry vets?     

Also, how much should I expect to pay for a consultation?

I would still be interested in finding out if there is a more local vet to me - my closest one is a 50 minute drive which I am happy to do but worry about the effect on any poorly chook.

My latest visit cost me £35  - is that high, low or an average cost?

Yes, where are you Devonian.  I think Penbode's (Holsworthy/Bude) will do hens but have never tried.  I have another possible idea if you are in the Holsworthy area, let us know.
