Some do,

I never bother, never had sucess with transplanting them & if they grow outside, why bring them in?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

They do well in peat pots brought on in the greenhouse then put straight into the ground without disturbing the roots.

I agree. I used to transplant the thinnings but they never produced as well as the ones simply direct seeded and left in place and thinned when an edible size. Since one corky-like beetroot seed contains up to 7 actual seeds, I space mine at min. of 4" (10cm) apart so they all have space to swell up.

If you have no better things to do.

Thing is, some plants need cosseting, others don't - thanks heavens -, really no need to waste valuable gh space on the latter ones.  8)

I have done both, the ones indoors were more advanced, but I then transfered them to the garden and they don't look very happy :( .  The ones I put straight in the ground are coming through and looking healthy :D .  I will plant the seeds straight outside in future.  Its my 1st time of growing veg and theres going to be alot of trial and error, sometimes the best way to learn.

I am starting mine off indoors only because my new plot is hard clay and they may stand a better chance if already established..only time will tell :D
