Table celery
« on: October 05, 2012, 10:45 »
I have tried to grow table celery this year - the first for a very long time. It is self blanching and although there are lots of leaves the stalks have not developed very well. It is now October - does celery continue to grow in the cold weather our should I just start to pick it as it is.

Start to pick it now and make the most of what you have. The first hard frosts will kill it.

Thanks Salmo - first picking will be eaten today - will probably need to pick at least two to get a decent serving - having said that it smells lovely.  :)

Celery is essentially a bog plant and through the growing season needs lots of steady water, something to consider for next year for table use. Just took out one of my plants and it's 20" tall with nice fat stalks. Very pleased with it.

Hi Trillium - unfortunately there was no problem with water this year - our problem was a lack of heat and sun.     Hopefully, as we keep on saying, next year will be better.
