cooking with frozen fruit

Is it better to defrost frozen fruit before slamming it in a crumble, or not? The trouble with defrosting it first is it does get pretty mushy and sometimes a bit discoloured, depending on the fruit, but I'm never quite sure how it affects cooking temp/time if I use it frozen.

I've used frozen fruit for years, and for crumble I find it best to spread the needed fruit out in the dish you plan to use and zap it in the microwave for about 10 minutes if its a fair bit. It's mostly thawed but not runny yet. Then add the toppings, etc and cook for the required time.

By mostly thawing them out, you reduce the cooking time to the usual time if it was fresh.

If you don't have a microwave, then you can leave it out for a while to partly thaw.

I have used solid frozen fruit and you'd need to add 10-15 minutes cooking time. Check often during cooking.
