Haven't had a 'Best' Potato thread for a few years...

We grew Winston for first earlies (several lovely potato salads!), Desiree which cropped well in poor soil and Sarpo Mira which succumbed to blight when my back wa turned 

We're only going to grow first earlies next year as we enjoy the novelty of homegrown potato salad and blight has been as massive problem at our site for some years now.

Looks like the potato has fallen out of favour, but for those that have an interest...

2023 season

Earlies were...
 
British Queens, they done well as usual

Second Earlies...

Charlotte, they too done well, good size and taste, only recently finished eating them.

Main Crop...

Golden Wonder, great flavour, balls of flour.

Kerrs Pink, had the first of them last night, just fantastic, great flavour, balls of flour.

Arron Victor, havent tried them yet, but looking good.

I always use Swift for my first earlies, as i want the fastest cropping variety.
So long as Spring's not too dry, they're a reliable cropper, though the dry weather this year meant they had a tendency towards floury & bursting skins when boiled.
Second earlies where charlotte - a mix of bought & saved seed.
The latter are on their fourth year & significantly outperformed the bought in ones - more than 20% greater yield.
I grow in 30 litre tubs, then mostly store the tubs until needed & emptied the last one a week back - just a couple showing signs of shoots. Those I bagged were showing sprouts just after Christmas...
Maincrop were Desiree - crop was severely scabby & ugly.
Never again.
In fact I'll not bother with maincrop again, as I can make better use of the ground they occupy for more costly veg.
