Tomatoe & Cucumber Diagnosis?
« on: June 24, 2011, 09:32 »
Hi all,

Could any one lend a hand and tell me what might be upsetting my toms and cucumbers? I tought the toms might have magnesium defficiency but am unsure of the cucumber problem. They have been kept in a green house and have been doing fine, then suddenly now they look a little bit sorry for themselves. We have had one good 5 inch cucumber all ready but now that looks like it might be the last?

Looks like botrytis to me on the toms.

Have they been getting enough ventilation? cos those plastic houses can get very steamy inside?

At the very least pick off all the dead leaves and keep door/windows open as much as possible

That was a suspicion of mine, is botrytis a term for a leaf mould? I had not been oppening the doors until i saw the leaves dying and consulted one of my books.

Botrytis is a fungal disease, as I recall. IT looks like fuzzy grey mould on the leaves

Is there any thing I can buy to destroy the fungal infection?

You can spray with Bordeaux Mixture, having removed and burned all the infected foliage. You should really do this at the first signs, so it might be too late, but worth a try probably.
