Rosemary Rainbow Beetle
« on: July 03, 2014, 19:50 »
7 year old grandson found a very beautiful little beetle in my garden - something I had never seen before. It looked very similar to the rare Tansy Beetle which can only be found along the nearby banks of the Yorkshire River Ouse. Anyway it turns out our little beauty is a real pest and is invading from the Med.. It is now causing widespread nuisance in the south, so here is a warning - i must be on the march as  we are right up north in YORK. It lives on lavender, rosemary, sages and thyme

The RHS at Wisley are carrying out a survey to see whereabouts this pest (albeit very pretty) plus the Red Lily Beetle, the Berberis Sawfly and the Hemeracallis Gall Midge are being sighted.

You could log your sighting polly, on www.rhs.org.uk/science if you like.
